Taking the Perfect Selfie
Taking the Perfect Selfie
If you’ve been on Instagram for a while, you’ve probably already noticed the amount of selfies people take. There are thousands of selfies uploaded every day from all around the world, and it seems like lots of people take wonderful selfies. No matter how many they upload, they’re always great! Well, just so you know, there’s a trick behind those pictures.

Today, we’re bringing you the art of the selfie. Taking one may not be as easy as it seems, but that’s why we’re bringing you the basics to selfie-taking. First: lighting. Don’t expect to take a nice selfie in a poorly-lit room or with fluorescent bulbs (avoid them at all costs!). The best type of light is natural lighting, it’s what looks best on everyone. The more artificial, the more flaws you’re going to be seeing on your face (so don’t worry if you thought that was because you were ugly, because it’s not!). So find a window during daytime and start taking some selfies! Now, lighting isn’t EVERYTHING. You also have to know what angles to snap. Try avoiding low angles, they usually don’t flatter anyone. Try a slightly higher angle, but don’t go all the way to those Myspace angles (you know what we’re talking about). Some people also have better sides, so find the one that works for you. Oh, and don’t tilt your phone! If anything, tilt your head slightly.
And lastly, but much less important: filters! Now, before you go overboard, use them wisely. Don’t put excess filters on your pictures or they’ll look extremely edited. The more natural, the better!

Instagramers Gallery awards the best pictures uploaded on Instagram
The photographer’s social network is so important that its numerous users pay to buy more Instagram followers and its success has led to the emergence of groups like Instagramers, a community who has users in more than 60 countries all over the world for whom Instagram and its use is almost a lifestyle. Now, Instagramers has put on a fancy with the creation of a fascinating and ambitious initiative: Instagramers Gallery.
What is Instagramers Gallery? As its name suggests, it is an initiative that consists in the creation of an Instagram’s gallery in which the users can upload their pictures and, every day, the best one will be chosen. This picture, named as the best picture of the day, will receive a cash prize of 1,000 dollars (around 725 euros) and the user who uploaded that picture can be chosen to being awarded with the Instagramers-Photo-Prize to the best picture and the prize of 100,000 euros that come with it.
The pictures will be evaluated by a jury composed by highly respected professionals, who will have a hard task ahead of them, because this initiative is going to have a lot of impact, even more now that it has been blessed by Instagram itself.
This is an attractive initiative and it offers very juicy prizes, so it is obvious that this contest is going to be a complete success. There are no terms or obligations to participate but, to win, we will have to be true artists (and we assure you that there are a lot of those on Instagram).
This Instagramers Gallery’s initiative isn’t limited to Internet but, at the same time, Instagramers is going to open a gallery called Instagramers Gallery Miami, where the most popular artists on Instagram and the winners of the Instagramers-Photo-Price are going to exhibit their work (there are already more than 20 artist invited). This Miami gallery is just one of the many that these promoters want to open. In fact, the second gallery that they are going to open it’s already on the go, and it is going to be located in Madrid.
We can’t finish this article without naming the promoters and ideologues of this attractive initiative, Phil González and Jorge Martínez, who, with Instagramers’s support, have created a highly innovative concept. Thanks to them, the pictures and photographers that would have been gone unnoticed otherwise have now the opportunity to succeed through Instagram and Instagramers Gallery.
