The impact of Instagram on our lives and its evolution until 2022. Instagram is one of the most famous social networks today, since millions of people use it for fun and leisure, as well as for work issues.
This social network can be found at the following link: https://instagram.com
Instagram has had a brutal impact on people’s lives, especially young people, who spend most of their time with their mobile phones, computers and social networks.
In addition, Instagram has given job opportunities to those people who are dedicated to social networks, such as influencers, people who influence society with respect to tastes, thoughts, fashion examples, makeup, travel, etc.
Here I add two examples of female influencers, one with a higher number of followers and another with a lower number.
The first is Yolanda Claramonte, with the @loveyolii_ account with 532,000 followers and the second is María Pombo, with the @mariapombo account with 2.3 million followers.
On Instagram you can not only find accounts related to advice on travel, food or fashion, but you can also find accounts such as additional help on academic subjects, such as English, Mathematics, History, etc. In the field of education, many teachers create Instagram accounts for their classes, where students can access the content, materials and activities of each session.
In addition, on Instagram you can carry out raffles by writing the hashtag #Raffle regarding the country in which you live by accessing from the Instagram loupe. In these raffles, the influencers usually give to one of all followers: beauty products, clothes, wellness, food, trips, etc.
The function of Instagram is to publish photos or images on a platform that users from different parts of the world can access, in addition to chatting, making videos and sharing publications from other accounts.
The beginnings of the Instagram social network (2010)
The Instagram social network has evolved considerably over the years since its inception was in October 2010.
Burn app, later Instagram app
Instagram was originally called Burbn, created by Mike Krieger and Kevin Systrom. This application was only used to record your locations and share photos also with location.
The creators of Burbn realized that it was a complex application for most users, so they decided to change its name to Instagram, as well as eliminate all the options of such application except the publication of geolocated photos.
Instagram was launched in 2010 and in a short time it had a million registered users with their own accounts, although it could only be accessed with Apple devices, that is, with the IOS operating system. Later in March 2011, they changed the app logo that is shown below:
And in September of that same year, the platform reached 10 million of users registered in such social network. Later, in 2012, Mark Zuckerberg, owner of Facebook, bought Instagram, a purchase that ultimately turned out to be a success.
Instagram videos (2013)
Instagram videos
In 2013 Instagram provided the creation of videos and not only photographs. It started with the possibility of publishing short videos to the possibility of making reels and stories. Thanks to Instagram videos, today Instagram is the most used means of work by influencers.
In addition, in this same year, the possibility of being able to tag other users in photographs was incorporated.
In December of that year, Instagram already registered 100 million of users, and in 2014, it grew to 300 million of registered users.
From photo and video to Boomerang (2015)
In the year 2015, new diversity came to Instagram regarding videos and photos. It was already possible to access the possibility of making collages, that is, different small photographs positioned in a single photo.
Instagram boomerang
The possibility of making boomerangs also was integrated, that is, capturing moving images, videos with the “hands-free” option, it means, making videos without having to continuously press the video playback button; just pressing it once at the beginning of the video and another at the end of it was enough.
Stories and direct (2016)
Stories & Direct
In 2016, Instagram expanded the options for using the platform. This same year, a new update appeared with the realization of direct (which I will explain later) and stories. This last one being copied from the Snapchat social network.
Both new options were very successful, but especially the direct one, which consisted of making a live video in which your followers could enter to see you, that is, people who followed your Instagram account.
Instagram filters (2017)
In 2017, Instagram expanded two new updates, the first one was to add the Instagram filters. These filters are modifications or effects that are added to your images or videos, changing their appearance. The second one was to add additional music with songs to photos or videos.
In addition, in this same year, Instagram allowed to upload up to 10 images creating carousels in each publication.
IGTV (2018)
In 2018 Instagram incorporated the creation of IGTV and the possibility of buying through such application.
Instagram as a medium for work use? (2019-2020)
Instagram logo
Between 2019 and 2020, shopping functions were added to the Instagram platform, where you could buy articles of clothing, accessories, etc., as well as reels, videos with a much longer duration than the videos that could be made on this social network the previous years.
In addition, it was also decided to change the design of the application, leaving the Instagram logo with colors between purple, pink and orange, with the shape of a white camera drawing in the center of the logo.
Below is a graphic with the growth in terms of registered users on Instagram from January 2013 to December 2021.
Instagram growth
Later, in 2021 Meta is the new name of the group that includes Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram. The rebranding to Meta came as it battled criticism from lawmakers and regulators about its market power. To this day, Instagram continues to belong to the Meta company.
